- Carbamazepine is an anti-epilepsy drug that is used in NMO to treat pain associated with spasticity and spasms, trigeminal neuralgia and some other pain symptoms.
How do I take carbamazepine?
- Carbamazepine is taken by mouth (orally) as tablets. How much you take can vary. Your doctor may advise you to take it once or several times a day. Normally you start on a low dose which is gradually increased.
What side effects could I get with carbamazepine?
- Side effects include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, liver problems and constipation. Many of these side effects ease off over time. It can also stop some types of oral contraceptive pill from working, so you may need to use different methods. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding talk to your doctor.
